Mental rehearsal can be a great skill to use in preparation for birth. Did you know that your brain can not distinguish between a real experience or skill and a vividly imagined one? So by rehearsing you birth experience; making it ideal as you’d like it to be – you lay down the neural pathways now in your body during pregnancy, ready for the birth of your baby. Particularly when imagining your cervix and pelvis opening up or your baby making it’s way through your body.

Visualisation can also be a great coping strategy in labour, giving you something to focus on. You might draw on:

➡️ Visualising your baby coming through your body.

➡️ An experience that has brought you’re a sense of strength or achievement in your life.

➡️ The use of a metaphor; like riding the waves of the ocean, a flower blooming.

➡️ Or your might just go to your own special or safe place.
