Oxytocin: the hormone of love.

The hormone of love.

Of connectedness.

Of calm.

The hormone we release during sex, during orgasm, during times of connection.

It's responsible for a woman's let-down reflex with breastfeeding.

It causes the uterus to contract in labour and birth.

And for an effective and efficient labour - you need LOTS of it!

I often ask my couples what are the sort of things you need when you make love? When you climax?

Of course that perfect recipe is individual; but on a whole I would say most of us like and need:

✨️ safety

✨️ privacy

✨️ low level lighting

✨️ relaxation

✨️ warmth

✨️ connection

✨️ intimacy

✨️ to be out of your head

✨️ surrender

✨️ a sense of letting go.

Think about how you can bring the above into your birth space. Perhaps you might like:

➡️ familiar faces for support

➡️ asking anyone wanting to enter your birth space for permission to do so first

➡️ fairy lights and candles as lighting

➡️ soothing smells

➡️ a warm room

➡️ your favourite pillow or blanket

➡️ your favourite music

➡️ using your breath

➡️ loving, tender touch

➡️ kisses

➡️ whispers of loving words in your ear

➡️ any items that bring you a sense of safety or calm

➡️ allowing the sensations to take you where you need to go.
