Did you know that each woman (even each breast) has its own unique maximum storage capacity? This refers to the maximum amount of milk that a breast can store at any given moment. And it has nothing to do with her breast size!
So what does this mean??
Aside from how hungry a baby happens to be, growth spurts, comfort needs, time of day and pain relief, the other thing that influences how often a baby will feed, is her mother's milk storage capacity.
A baby of a mum who has a "smaller" storage capacity, will feed more times from it's mum compared to a baby of a mum who has a "bigger" storage capacity. Over a 24hr period however, they will both consume similar volumes of milk.
My pet hate for women with healthy term babies is advice given to them, that they should be feeding their baby according to a schedule. In particular, for the mother with the baby who feeds more regularly because they NEED to, she may perceive her milk supply is not adequate enough to meet her babies needs - when in reality it's perfect ❤.
So follow your baby's lead mamma. You're doing brilliantly ❤
